Desmond Tutu was snubbed by the University of St. Thomas for his critical stance on Israel. Apparently, he has been called anti-semitic because of a speech he made a few years back where he criticized the Israeli government's treatment of Palestinians. A few pro-Zionist organizations afterwards tried to paint Tutu a seething bigot, even though Tutu even said in his speech that his criticisms were not with the jewish people, but specifically the government of Israel.
Long story short, St. Thomas told a Nobel Peace Prize recipient that he couldn't speak a their school.
What a bunch of assholes.
Anyway, I found this news item today:

Seems Tutu is now criticizing his own Anglican Church for its homophobia and its insistence on focusing on gay priests instead of, well, helping the sick and the poor.
Said Tutu:
"Our world is facing problems - poverty, HIV and Aids - a devastating pandemic, and conflict," said Archbishop Tutu, 76.
"God must be weeping looking at some of the atrocities that we commit against one another.
"In the face of all of that, our Church, especially the Anglican Church, at this time is almost obsessed with questions of human sexuality."
The way I see it, Archbishop Tutu is the kind of religious leader this world needs. The fact that St. Thomas could be so willing to kowtow to political extremists is both disturbing and short-sighted. As though the Catholic Church, of all institutions, has the right to call anyone anti-semitic. The Catholic Church colluded with the Nazis, for Christ's sake (pun intended).
