Public Service Announcement

I was checking my Google Analytics like a good nerd and found out some startling news- over the past month, I've had 24 visits by people using Internet Explorer 6. I would like to take a moment, if you will, to explain why this matter concerns me. Also, why it should concern you if you are viewing this through Internet Explorer 6 (IE6).

If you don't know what I mean when I mention browsers or Internet Explorer, don't feel dumb. A lot of people don't, although it is one of the most common forms of software the average computer owner uses. So common it's easy to miss. A browser is your portal into the internet. It takes all those millions of bits of binary code streaming out of those miles and miles of fibre optic wires and turns them into Rotten Tomato reviews, eBay auctions, and, of course, Goatse. It's a hard working application, and for all the work it does, the program is free. Yup, costs nothing. Nada. Zip. Zero.

And if you are using IE6, a browser that is not only old and clunky, but a security risk at that. That's right, when you are on the web trolling for whatever floats your boat, be it replica Colonial blackpowder rifles or hardcore BDSM porn, you may get exposed to some less than friendly computer code. That's right- malicious software just hoping to find some way through your browser and onto your computer. And IE6 has some of the weakest security out there. Read about it here.

IE6 has other geeky issues which I promise not to bore you with. All you need to know is newer, safer and more customizable browsers are out there and they are FREE. Doesn't take long to download or install. It might take some time to get used to it, but once you do, you'll be better for it.

Internet Explorer 7 is out there, if you don't want to change things up too much. Better yet, go for Opera or Firefox. Both are über safe and efficient, plus they are packed with features which will make all those hours wasted in front of the computer even more satisfying.

I myself use Firefox 3. It rules. I'm even going to put up an image that will link you to their download page.
