D. Boon, Mike Watt and George Hurley were The Minutemen (a wonderful play on words- it meant "minute" as in little, a sort of ironic statement on American patriotism). One of the most difficult to categorize punk bands of the 80's West Coast scene, the band ended abruptly with the tragic death of D. Boon. For those of you in the know, such a historical overview is unnecessary. But to the all-too-many who don't know them, check them out. These are politically charged times, and they were a band that fostered intense creativity with a desire to tackle Big Issues while never leaving behind their working-class roots. They were more punk than punk that way.
Check out the video they did for "King of the Hill" in all of its DIY, dated 80's glory.
