Hurl's Guitar Lesson Week 1: Inspiration

So I gave my friend Hurl some guitar lessons and what was set up to be a weekly meeting has since gone a little pear-shaped. Blame it on conflicting schedules, changing tides or the sad state of the economy, what it comes down to is that Hurl isn't getting the guitar spiritual guidance he needs to find six six six string nirvana.

To resolve this issue, I have decided to at least post a blog once a week for the edification of Hurl, as well as anyone else looking to unravel the mysteries of the guitar. Before we dive into technique, I figured we ought to look for inspiration instead.

First, we have this Japanese youtube video featuring a player whose sparse description of the video is simply "play 'Mr. Crowley' on guitar in order to let METAL be popular." Is this really a woman, or is daljr2009 right in asserting that, more or less, it is a man, baby. Regardless, this anonymous, androgynous guitarist pulls off an impressive tribute to Randy Rhoads and reminds us all that Ozzy Osbourne is a man whose talent isn't so much as a singer, but as a scout for bad ass guitarists.

Next we come to the band Boris. Boris has a guitarist that is definitely a woman. Her name is Wata. The following video is for the song "Smile," which is funny because Wata never does:

That is all for this week. Hurl, play your 12 bar blues and practice your pentagramic scale.
