Political Angst

Here is a quote from then-presidential candidate George W. taken from a 1999 speech in Cedar Rapids, IA:

"Is compassion beneath us? Is mercy below us? Should our party be led by someone who boasts of a hard heart? I am proud to be a compassionate conservative. I welcome the label. And on this ground, I'll take my stand."

Now this is a headline from today's Minneapolis Star-Tribune:

Bush vetoes health and education bill

And if that headline wasn't enough, the article states:

"He also signed a big increase in the Pentagon's non-war budget although the White House complained it contained 'some unnecessary spending.'"

Wow. I am never ceased to be amazed on how regularly I am appalled by the Bush Administration's duplicity. Sometimes its easy to shrug it off, since it has been 7 years of the same news over and over. Other days, like today, it makes me angry. The criminal disregard our Executive Branch has for the well-being of the American people, particularly the working-class, makes me ill.

433 days left. I have the feeling its going to be a long 433 days.
